Charlize Returns To Sa For The Soccer Games

12th July 2010

The 34-year-old movie star, who won a Best Actress Oscar in 2003 playing serial killer Aileen Wuornos in Monster, has appeared in a music video for musician Brandon Flowers of US rock band The Killers, in which she fearlessly slays ninjas with a samurai sword.

The video has been shot for Crossfire, the first single from Flowers' debut solo album, Flamingo, which will be released in September, marking his breakaway from The Killers.

In the opening scene of the video Flowers regains consciousness in an undisclosed location, only to find that he has been tied up. Theron is on the rampage with a sword, defeating hordes of ninjas in an attempt to rescue him. The action sequence in the video has been compared with that of Quentin Tarantino's Kill Bill films, which starred Uma Thurman. Crossfire was created by Aussie actor, stuntman and film-maker Nash Edgerton, and the training Theron underwent for the music video could stand her in good stead for her next major action role, in another sequel to the Mel Gibson classic Mad Max, which will begin shooting early next year, according to sources. Mad Max creator George Miller hand-picked Theron for the female lead in the fourth edition of his post-apocalyptic action saga.

The acclaimed actress will be hoping to enjoy the rest of her vacation in South Africa before returning to her busy movie schedule in the US.

She will attend today's World Cup final as a VIP guest, along with Morgan Freeman, who was last in South Africa to promote his 2009 film Invictus, in which he played Nelson Mandela.

The two will watch the final between Spain and The Netherlands at Soccer City alongside a host of international celebrities and VIPs.
